Cracked and flaking paint will need to be removed and the area cleaned of contaminants before a primer and new coat of paint can be applied. Our painters always pressure wash, scrape, and clean surfaces to make sure new coats of paint can bond correctly with the surface. If the surface is not properly prepared, the new coat of paint will not correctly adhere to the surface and will be subject to a much faster deterioration.

 

External paintwork is broken down by the action of sunlight, air and moisture. Full deterioration may take from 3 to 10 years, manifested by powdering, flaking or peeling.

Powdered areas may be rubbed down and repainted in preferably 2 coats.

Flaked or peeling paint must be scraped or burnt off to the original surface, which is then treated as for new work.

Adequacy of protection will depend on paint film thickness and opacity.
